So tell me she said, why do you walk so funny
To atone notice, I replied
And on your heel, this extra inch
Oh my dear, it disappears in church on Sunday
and all week long, I’m balanced...

And furthermore, this extra inch serves to make the glass half full
bubbling with the possibility of extension or fabrication
or perhaps blindfolds for the entire populous.
It lets me observe more closely the symmetry of my fingers and toes
and helps me to remember the reality of inequality and discord
and all the beautiful textures of imperfection...

For what of an inch? When you never had an inch
What of a breast to suckle upon for just a week or two
And besides, I always imagined that she retained that inch as a keepsake or a just in case or proof or some other sick reasoning in keeping with the methods and the madness of those times.

So, she said, for that which you have never had - you are entirely grateful?

Oh Yes, I replied, once you extract the bitterness, resentment, preclusion, doubt and unrelenting vengeance, I’m fine, wonderful, thanks....
